| Performance: |
While
it has been known forever, in the engineering field, that
proper turbos make more power and greater mid-range and top end torque
than any known form of supercharging, either maximum, or at equivalent
boost, now the enthusiast user is also becoming so informed.
Along
with the substantial performance edge the turbo enjoys over the
supercharger, the enthusiast is also becoming keenly aware that the
turbo also has the significant advantages of:
1. Smoother
The turbo slightly improves the
smooth driving nature of the Miata, as opposed to the slight
degrade caused by a supercharger.
2. More durable
No form of performance improvement
has proven more durable than
a turbocharger. With modest care, the Garrett turbochargers are
easily
200,000 mile devices.
3. Less heat
The turbo produces less heat load
on the engine and in the air
intake charge than any form of supercharging. The reduced heat
load is
the prime factor in the greater durability of a turbocharged engine
relative to a supercharged engine. This is the fundamental reason
turbos have powered every winning Le Mans racer since Charlemagne ruled
the roost.
4. Better Economy
Without the constant extra load on
the crankshaft of driving a
supercharger, the turbo freewheels to an enormous advantage in simple
miles per gallon.
5. Quieter
If you find the pure
sounds of a performance four cylinder
attractive to you, the turbo, unlike the SC will offer no interference.
6. Less Fuss
The componentry of the
turbo is both actually and inherently
less fussy than any supercharger because it does not have that belt,
two pulleys and an idler to misbehave at all too frequent intervals.

Objectives: |
To
provide the Miata enthusiast a substantial gain in performance at a
very moderate cost. The BEGi-S
creates more power per dollar than
any other Miata system in the world. Further, the BEGi-S
offers the path
to yet higher performance with proven components.
The BEGi-S Series has been configured
specifically for the enthusiast who
initially wants a healthy power and torque increases in the 40%/50%
range. If you have not driven a properly configured and properly
tuned turbo Miata at 5 psi of boost, you will be astounded at the
enormous gain in acceleration rates. |
Results: |
Superb
driveability, quiet operation, cruise economy increases, and a
smoothness that no Miata supercharger system has ever
approached. The turbo is the only power adding mechanism that
does not degrade the Miata
personality in any manner. The sprightly nature of the Miata remains
completely intact with “zoom zoom” added on.
The durability of the Garrett turbocharger
cannot be matched by any other form of forced induction. The
fundamental engineering behind
the durability is a long story, but manifest in the fact that
turbocharged cars have won all
the great endurance races continuously for decades, and no one
dares even enter a
supercharged car in the race. Mazda's own American Le Mans Series
car is turbocharged.
The BEGi-S enjoys exceptionally rapid boost and
throttle response.
The BEGi-S is
also ideal for the entry level turbo system. Unlike any other
entry level system, the BEGi-S is
completely expandable
within the existing BEGi components all the way to our sophisticated S3
system. The BEGi S3 system, capable of 300 bhp, currently stands
head
and shoulders in components, engineering and quality of design and
manufacture, above any system offered by any other manufacturer.
The BEGi-S and one
casual Saturday's
effort can change your Miata into a vehicle that will accelerate faster
in 5th gear than your stock Miata will in 3rd gear. All the while
maintaining the same spunky eagerness to run that so characterizes the
Miata. |
Components:
|
* The same
directed pulse exhaust manifold as used
in our most expensive systems.
This manifold has been recognized
repeatedly as the best cast Miata manifold in
existence
* A genuine Garrett GT 2554 ball bearing
turbocharger with water cooled center
section and integral wastegate
* Mandrel bent steel air charge tubes, not the
plastic inlet pieces left over from the
stock inlet
* Powder coated air charge tubes
* The most sophisticated rising rate regulator ever
used in a forced induction
system. (‘90 through ’97 cars)
* Mandrel bent, thick flanged, downpipe
* All welding is done with the artistic TIG machine
* K&N Air Filter
* Oil and water lines
* All fasteners, hoses, clamps, etc., required for a
remarkably easy installation
* Comprehensive instructions |

We
have made a multitude of power
enhancing
and durability improvements to the1.6L, 1.8L and '99-'04 turbo systems.
These kits has been designed by the
turbo charging expert, Corky Bell, who has a designed over 100 turbo
kits, of which have been featured on over 130 magazine articles and 16
front covers. We
are the oldest Turbo Kit maker in the USA, and we were one of the first
with a turbo kit for the Miata. We have been working on Miatas for
over 15 years and have built more Miata turbo systems than all other
makers
combined. We have designed, built, and tooled up these new systems with
a passion and intensity that borders on insanity. We have brought the
best of engineering procedures, materials, and processes to produce
drive ability, economy and phenomenal performance. Below are photos of
the new designs on the1.6L, 1.8L and the
'99 to '04. Coming soon is are the supercharger
system for '06 Miatas.

Frequently Asked
Questions:
Q:
Why do some of the turbo systems not have fuel or engine management?
A:
Lots of customers have a favorite engine management system they want
to use. BEGi will not lock you into using our system. Some
people prefer stand alone ECU's some need a simple solution.
Q:
Why is the Xede Engine Management highly recommended for the 1999
and up Miatas?
A: The
only way to change the ignition timing in the NB Miata is to
install a new wheel and have it retard ignition timing all the time. So
far, there is not a Bipes ACU for the 1999+ cars. This is not a good
solution as the car does not drive well and will loose power and turbo
spool.
The Xede is the electronic solution that will add or retard ignition
timing to an accuracy of 0.10 degrees.
Q:
Does BEGi give a discount if the Xede is
purchased with the turbo?
A:
Yes. If you purchase the fuel or engine management system together,
BEGI will give a 10% discount off of the cost of the turbo system and
fueling system.

Component Quality
The Turbo is a Garrett T25 ball bearing, T28 ball bearing, or a
T3. Oil and water cooled.
The Manifold is cast in ductile
iron. The design is the most efficient and reliable one available or
proposed with
spacious wrench clearances and careful control of thermal expansion.
NEW
Manifold Design!!!
The Air
Scooper directs air
flow
directly into the radiator, bypassing the intercooler. Overheating
problems, due to cooling air blockage created by the intercooler, are
greatly reduced and often eliminated with the Air Scooper. We
have a version for the
Miata with the R package as well. It bolts directly to the intercooler.
The
Radiator Cover aids the Air Scooper in air flow. It keeps the cooler
air from escaping over the top of the radiator.
The Intercooler has been
revised to a 'long' tube design. (the previous version was a short
tube). The core itself is aluminum, bar and plate style. (Not an e-bay
or China special!) The endtanks are wrought aluminum, and the
intercooler
mounts directly to the frame. Why did we go to the long tube design? It
removes more heat, with minimal drag. It does produce slightly more
drag than the short tube design, but the slight additional drag is
clearly offset by the enormous
increase in effectiveness.
The Cool Air Box totally isolates the air
filter from under hood heat. It aids in providing cooler air to the
turbo, so the increase of temperatures when under boost are even less.
What is this distribution block? It's the new simple, convenient,
durable, and central "port" for all oil and water supply lines to
the turbo. The
turbo oil and water supply lines have all been upgraded to stainless
steel braided lines for added durability.
