BEGi's ALL NEW
Mazda Miata
Turbo
System - Series 4
We have made several power
enhancing improvements to the 1.8L turbo kits. This kit has been
designed by the turbo charging expert, Corky Bell, who has a designed
over 100 turbo kits, of which 22 are still in production today. Below
is a photo of the new design.

Why
the Stainless Header Style Manifold?
Exhaust pulse
interference with other cylinders is not just reduced, it is flat
eliminated. All pulse directions experience “softer” changes in
finding their way to the turbine by the more uniform tube cross
sections and gentle bends, thus keeping the pulse velocities as high as
possible for their pending blast into the turbine. Nothing
makes for great changes, not even this beautiful manifold.
However, take a look around, what sort of exhaust manifolds do you see
on real racing machinery? You probably won’t find a cast log
style manifold, and certainly not one without a “directed pulse”
feature.
Will
this manifold make more power?
We’ll be happy with
3 to 5 percent. It is soon to be run on the Dyno.
Turbo
Position?
Lowering the
centerline of the turbo by about four inches gave us the opportunity to
straighten up the downpipe and gain a little easier exhaust gas flow as
a result. No great shakes for power, probably only another
percent or two.
Underhood
Heat?
This has never been
a problem, but is even less so with the S4. The lower mass of the
stainless header, even if operating at the same temperature, means
reduced heat.
Performance?
I urge you to
recall, we have often stated that maximum power is not our
objective. Too many short timer engines have made enormous power
by boost alone. Not my cup of tea. Please keep in mind, that our
objective is absolutely to achieve the maximum power per psi of
boost. That is exactly where our bragging rights will be
focused. We are producing the most powerful systems ever devised
for 5 psi boost. Same for 6, 7, 8 psi, ................. and
wherever your desires will take your objectives. Power per
psi is the magic number. Rather obvious, it is also the most
durable power number for any given power level as our systems will
achieve your objectives at the lowest possible boost pressure.
We are doing this by
re-engineering many of the details for even small power gains?
It is urgent to keep in mind that a two or three percent gain in some
specific area is not of great significance on its own, BUT, do this
three, four, eight, or ten times and a winning system becomes
obvious to all. That is exactly what we are doing, and the S4 is
a key part of that progress.
The S4 has all of
the many features offered in the S3. Your choice of T25/28 Ball
Bearing Turbo, with/without fuel systems, choice of materials for the
downpipe, three different size intercoolers ,,, essentially, an
endless number of choices. Configure the system around your
particular needs, we are delighted to build what you want to own.
The S4 is one more
reason why the BEGi “quality of design” is superior to ALL others.
The system will be ready to ship about mid-September. Quantities are
limited. We do not intend to build more than 50 systems a year.
